Yvonne Rainer: MURDER and murder

Pacific Film Archive

Yvonne Rainer’s performances and films have influenced a whole generation of artists, and in 1990 she was the subject of a Cinematheque retrospective and monograph. Yvonne’s newest film, MURDER and murder (1996, 113 min.) will premiere in San Francisco at the S.F. Museum of Modern Art (where a retrospective will begin later this month) and in Berkeley at the Pacific Film Archive in collaboration with the Cinematheque. A powerful, dramatized meditation on lesbian sexuality and social stigmas regarding the aging female body, MURDER.. builds on and broadens Rainer’s particular blend of Brechtian formal devices with her unerring instinct for cinematic expression. PFA member privileges (discount admission, free phone charging for tickets) will be extended to Cinematheque members for tonight’s presentation.
