This artist book features 8×10″ view camera photographs taken by Abraham Ravett in the early 1980s of the Brighton Beach neighborhood in Brooklyn NY

Thirty years later, these photographs have become an historical record of a neighborhood in transition and a lingering visual embrace of the landscape that shaped the photographer’s youth. They convey impressions, fantasies, longings and fears that the photographer had in his early 30s while at the same time reflecting upon his evolving interest in the photographic traditions that informed his practice.

Abraham Ravett is an independent filmmaker, photographer and educator who teaches at Hampshire College, Amherst MA
