To complement its current exhibition Mike Henderson: Traces of Places, Haines Gallery has partnered with the Exploratorium, Museum of the African Diaspora and San Francisco Cinematheque to co-present The Films of Mike Henderson, an evening screening of the artist's award winning experimental films from the 1970s and '80s. Curated by Mark Toscano of the Academy Film Archive with Mike Henderson, this Exploratorium Cinema Arts Program will present a selection of 16 millimeter prints that attest to Henderson's groundbreaking work in the medium. The screening will be immediately followed by a performance by the Mike Henderson Blues Band.

Mike Henderson completed his BFA and MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and retired from the University of California at Davis in 2013 where he served as a professor in the Art Department was since 1970.  He was a featured artist in the MoAD 2012 exhibition Choose Paint, Choose Abstraction. Also an accomplished blues musician, Henderson plays professionally at local and international venues.

This program is presented as part of MoAD in the Neighborhood. Prints courtesy of the Academy Film Archive.
