Roy Cohn/Jack Smith

2pm

By Jill Godmilow

A riveting cinematic translation of a theatrical performance by one of the founding members of The Wooster Group. Actor Ron Vawter interprets the dual roles of Roy Cohn - the reactionary prosecutor of the McCarthy era who battled against civil rights for homosexuals despite being gay himself - and Jack Smith. Vawter switches from one character to the other, finding links between two people who couldn’t be more opposite. (1995, 88 min, digital)

“Shorts and Ephemera”

A program of Smith’s short films and rare performance documentation. Program includes Hot Air Specialists, Jungle Island, Song for Rent, Overstimulated, Scotch Tape, and the posthumous Respectable Creatures, which blends footage from his first film Buzzards over Baghdad with material shot at Carnival in Rio in 1967. (1950 - 1980s, 63 min, 16mm)
