Riverglass: A River Ballet in Four Seasons by Andrej Zdravic

California College of the Arts

Slovenian artist Andrej Zdravic returns to the Bay Area with the premiere of his newest work, Riverglass (1997, video). Originally inspired in the 1960s by his passion for music and for nature, Andrej has created a body of films, videos and installations which “explore spectacles of the planet to rediscover an innocence of the eye by elevating natural elements to an emotional leitmotiv.” (Jean-Michel Bouhours, Centre Pompidou) Riverglass was filmed underwater over four seasons, within one of the wondrous rivers of the world, Socha, in the Slovenian Alps. “The river is like a liquid lens through which are revealed worlds of stone mosaics, palpitating sun membranes and turquoise volumes that offer a medium for philosophical and poetical discoveries…”(AZ) Riverglass will also show at the Exploratorium, where Andrej was an artist-in-residence for several years.
