Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Gertrud
Gertrud (Denmark, 1964, 115 m., b/w, Danish, with English subtitles) Gertrud is the great Danish filmmaker’s last film. Dreyer’s career virtually spans the history of film. He was always ahead of his time. With each new film, Dreyer pushed the language of cinema ever further. With Gertrud, he takes his explorations the farthest. Austrian filmmaker Peter Kubelka said… “Gertrud is a film of absolute newness and it belongs to the outposts of the avant-garde. Although the film has a conventional aspect, it is something never seen before.”
