Of History and Identity: The Films of Dan Eisenberg
Filmmaker in Person
Boston filmmaker Dan Eisenberg will make his first Cinematheque appearance presenting two films from 1981, Breaking Apples (Jacob’s Ladder) and Displaced Person, a condensed essay on the relationship of documentary images to history and language. His new film Cooperation of Parts (1987) “is a journey through the landscapes of France, Germany and Poland; through the lagers of Dachau and Auschwitz;; and also a journey through the language and possibilities of film. Image, title, music, and spoken commentary work independently of each other, formally duplicating an active process of thinking, seeing, and judgment; and through this accumulation the process of identity.”—D.E. Cooperation will be screened this fall at the Mannheim Festival at Arsenal in Berlin, and in New York at MOMA.
