People of the Streets
Film/video maker Chuck Hudina in person
Since the beginning of cinema filmmakers have been drawn to working in public urban settings, excited by the visual detail of human activity. This evening’s program includes three rarely seen street portraits by now-legendary photographers, followed by the premiere of Chuck Hudina’s verite Tenderloin Blues, a videotape portrait of the people living in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district.
Films: Gypsies (1933) by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Up and Down the Waterfront (1946) by Rudy Burckhardt, Weegee’s New York (1948) by Weegee, and Tenderloin Blues (1987) by Chuck Hudina.
