Since 1975 Stuart Sherman has created 14 of his one-man “Spectacle” Performances, several intricate full-length plays involving numerous actors, drawings, and sculptures, and 29 short films. He is one of the seminal figures in New York’s performing arts world, whose works in all mediums have been widely shown at major art centers throughout the world. For tonight’s program Sherman will perform his Fourteenth Spectacle in its entirety, followed by screenings of several recent short films, including Black-Eyed Susan (Portrait of an Actress) and The Discovery of the Phonograph.
