Introduction and commentary by Professor Karl Saurer and Gabrielle Voss

Documentary filmmaking underwent radical changes of style and approach in Germany during the 1960s. Portable equipment made ‘verité’ spontaneity possible, and filmmakers began dealing with issues of the blue collar and underprivileged classes, with results which were often disturbing and controversial to the mainstream culture. Tonight’s program begins an overview of this movement. (Presented in cooperation with the Goethe Institute.)
