THE UNKNOWN PARIS AVANT-GARDE
Films by Lemaître, Jakobois, Fontaine, and others
Beauvais’ second program presents recent work by young Parisian filmmakers and the premiere of a major film from 1969 by the leader of the Lettriste movement, Maurice Lemaître. Lemaître’s Le soulevement de la jeunesse incorporates the concrete poetry of Isou and Lemaître with texts by DeGaulle, Pompidou, and others in a film manifesto that explodes a theory of nuclear economy, post anarchic extremism and meta-situationism. Other films include Cruises by Cecille Fontaine (1989), Passage du desir by Jakobois (1988), 4′ 49″ de generation d’images (1987) by Dennis Rousseau Kaplan, and Mansfield K. (1988) by Martine Rousset.
