Yin-Ju Chen and Marie Martraire In Person
Working primarily with video, drawings and installation, Taipei-based Yin-Ju Chen investigates notions of power and authority in human society, including scathing and wry considerations of nationalism, totalitarism and the collective (un)conscious. Opening May 11 (and on view through June 25) at Kadist Art Foundation in San Francisco, Chen’s multimedia installation Extrastellar Evaluations examines the interweavings of science fiction, conspiracy theory and cosmological pseudoscience. Tonight’s screening features Chen in conversation with Kadist Art Foundation’s Director of Asia Programs Marie Martraire and Cinematheque's Steve Polta discussing her work and practice. Videos to be screened include One Universe, One God, One Nation; End Transmission and others.
Presented in association with the Kadist Art Foundation and the National Culture and Art Foundation, Taiwan. Yin-Ju Chen appears in person thanks to a residency at the Kadist Art Foundation.
