Smith's most hypnotic film, this mesmerizing unfinished work derives from his adoration of Maria Montez, the B-movie star best known for her performance in the Technicolor camp-fest Cobra Woman. With an intense pink and green color scheme and no dialogue, Normal Love features an exotic tableaux of monsters, a mermaid, a lecher, and various enigmatic gargoyles, performed by a cast which includes Mario Montez, John Vaccaro, Diane Di Prima, Beverly Grant, Tiny Tim, and more. (1963-65, 120 min, 16mm)
