Cinematic poems of forgetting and remembering, experienced as much through the body as through the eyes. A Poem (2025) by Vasilios Papaioannu

In an underground garage, a voice message becomes the testament of a love left in limbo, while fleeting images allude to the moment that led to it. (Vasilios Papaioannu)
bay area premiere

A Pure Portion of Anxiety (2026) by Chae Yu

A mermaid stands abandoned at the water’s edge. Images drift between a lake, the badlands and a ferry crossing open water, trembling through mirrors and reflections as if longing had its own frequency. Fossils surface. Bones are carefully kept. The ocean sounds like an unanswered call. The mermaid waits. (Chae Yu)
world premiere

Mounds Above the Earth (2026) by Jiayi Chen

Mounds above the Earth contemplates ecological cycles, perception and environmental transformation, anchored in the rare emergence of two periodical cicada broods surfacing simultaneously for the first time in more than two centuries. The film follows the flicker of red, through the cicadas’ developing eyes, a blood moon and an ancient fable. (Jiayi Chen)
bay area premiere

Body, remember... (2025) by Matthew Berka

After C.P. Cavafy. Dedicated to the body, to remembering, to forgetting. When blinded, the senses can cross-pollinate so that they become more closely bonded. Likewise, they can also disassociate and lose contact with each other. Desire transforms things into other things. The erotics of absence and suggestion direct attention away from the materialism of pornography. Longing is described through cinematic space as distance and proximity. (Matthew Berka)
US premiere

Forgetting (2026) by Antoni Orlof

A meditation on fleeting memories and the nature of memory. Revisiting lost images and moments. (Antoni Orlof)
bay area premiere

Songs Overheard in the Shadows (2025) by James Edmonds

Balanced on the edge of what is visible, everything comes from nothingness and returns to nothingness. Strands of consciousness trying to convene with each other. Forms of personal significance in a time of crisis, set free into random motion through chance operations. Recurring details point towards a centre. (James Edmonds)
north american premiere

Vasilios Papaioannu (Greece/Italy/US) is a filmmaker, photographer and mixed media artist. His work explores the fleeting dreamscapes of reality using noise, movement and disturbance. He hybridizes different modes of filmmaking, unifying variegated media, primarily 16mm film, digital video and archival footage. An Associate Professor of Film at Howard University, Papaioannu holds an MA in Communication, Text Semiotics and Cinema from the University of Siena and an MFA in Film from Syracuse University.

Chae Yu (South Korea/US) is a filmmaker based in Seoul and Chicago. Her films observe faces, gestures and small repeated movements across domestic, transient and outdoor spaces, attending to the way bodies leave impressions in places that don’t hold them. Moving between fiction and documentary, she traces how physical and spatial residues accumulate into collective memory and how that memory is quietly distorted in the process. Her work has been presented internationally at various film festivals and venues.

Jiayi Chen (China) works in analog film, projection performance and time-based installation. Her works have been exhibited and screened internationally, including IFFR; Fracto; New York Film Festival; Cineteca Madrid; MONO NO AWARE; the8fest; Light Matter Film Festival; Chicago Cultural Center; Antimatter; Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Anthology Film Archives.

Matthew Berka (Australia/UK) is an artist/filmmaker and composer whose work crosses the boundaries of the film-essay and poetic cinema. Often constructed through the connective tissue of disparate sounds and images, the films find patterns of meaning through association and feeling. Defying a materialist view of the world they offer a speculative vision of matter. Previous screenings and exhibitions include International Film Festival Rotterdam, Melbourne International Film Festival, Millennium Film Workshop, Onion City Film Festival, Close-Up Cinema, Antimatter [media art] and ZÉRUÌ, London. Berka also works as a time-based media conservator for Tate Gallery and contributes to the programming of Mackintosh Lane, an artist-run gallery in East London.

Antoni Orlof (Poland), born in 2002, is a filmmaker and a curator based in Warsaw. His artistic practice explores the poetic and narrative possibilities of images, as well as editing structures, and their ability to create meaning. Driven by a fascination with light, time, memory and symbols his work delves into themes of memory, transience and personal experiences.

James Edmonds (Germany/UK) is an artist and filmmaker from England, currently living in Berlin. His work is driven by personal observations and a poetic approach to the everyday that is both formalistic and lyrical. His films have been shown at various international festivals including TIFF Toronto, CROSSROADS, NYFF, First Look at MoMI New York, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Curtas Vila do Conde, Open City London, FICUNAM Mexico City and EXiS Seoul. Alongside cinematic works he creates paintings, installations, texts and music. Since 2022 he collaborates regularly with artist Petra Graf. He also teaches workshops in various art fields and organises occasional film screenings and exhibitions.
